IRAN, Qajars. Agha Muhammad Khan, AH 1193-1212 / AD 1779-1797. 1/2 Toman (Gold, 15 mm, 3.92 g, 7 h), type C, Rasht, date off flan. Traces of the couplet ‘shod āftāb-o māh zar-o sim dar jahān, az sekke-ye emām-e be haq sāhebozzamān’ (‘The sun and moon became gold and silver in the world / From the coin of the rightful Imam, the Age’s Lord’ in Persian). Rev. Within a dotted circle, ‘zarb-e dār al-marz Rasht’ (‘Struck in the Abode of the Frontier Rasht’ in Persian); above, traces of ‘yā Muḥammad’ (‘O Muhammad!’ in Arabic). Album 2832. Rare. The obverse struck slightly off center and the reverse from a corroded reverse die, otherwise, good very fine.
